Visit the Médiathèque Valais - Martigny from June 12, 2026 to March 27, 2027 to discover the exhibition Tours et détours, photographs by Bernard Dubuis.
Produced by the Médiathèque Valais – Martigny, the exhibition Tours et détours highlights the work of photographer Bernard Dubuis, whose archives – nearly 30,000 films – joined the institution’s heritage collections in 2018.
While his work is often associated with images of construction sites, this exhibition reveals a more intimate and introspective dimension of his gaze. Conceived by curator Maéva Besse, it offers a sensitive immersion in a rich and profoundly human body of work.
Organized around five themes – traditions and gatherings, agriculture, religion and politics, streets and culture – the exhibition brings together some 160 black-and-white photographs, taken between the 1970s and today. In these images, everyday life mingles with the defining moments of our times, offering a view that is at once precise, offbeat and imbued with tenderness.
Reflections of reality, here and elsewhere, Bernard Dubuis’ photographs invite us to pay attention to what often escapes our gaze. Between humor and sensitivity, they offer a different way of seeing, feeling and thinking about the world.
A rich program of cultural mediation accompanies the exhibition, with guided tours, meetings, workshops and activities for all publics.
Accessible to all, the exhibition also offers inclusive features such as a booklet in FALC, audiodescription materials and adapted tours. Admission is free every first Saturday of the month, and guided tours are offered every Thursday at noon.
