The Pissevache waterfall is the most impressive waterfall in French-speaking Switzerland, with a height of over 100 metres.
La Pissevache, a natural wonder standing 116 metres tall. The popular saying ‘Il pleut comme vache qui pisse’ (it’s raining cats and dogs) is said to have inspired a passer-by, who renamed the Salanfe waterfall ‘Pissevache’. From the 1860s onwards, the Trient Valley saw an influx of tourists, and galleries were installed halfway up the waterfall. The imposing waterfall also impressed artists, who immortalised it and brought it international recognition.
