Discover the iconic history of the majestic Saxon Casino through the following timeline:
Late 1830s: Construction of a modest spa establishment in Saxon.
1847: Major Sépibus obtains the right to open a casino in the spa centre, to which only foreigners will be admitted.
1855: Joseph Fama takes over the establishment and transforms it into a luxurious casino with a concert hall.
1860: The casino’s new facilities were then linked to the arrival of the railways, the closure of several gaming rooms in Europe and highly effective advertising. The small village of Saxon became a fashionable cosmopolitan centre.
1877: Closure of the casino following a decision by the federal authorities to ban games of chance.
1949: The radical brass band ‘La Concordia’ bought the historic casino and transformed it. For several years, the casino came back to life and gambling was once again permitted until 2002. Unfortunately, that year marked the end of gambling due to a lack of concessions.
2008: The municipality of Saxon purchased the casino.
From 2010: The casino was rented by various companies to honour it and bring it back to life. Between the croupier school, shows, cabarets, concerts, nightclubs and a restaurant, there was plenty on offer for a great time.
