Would you sell your soul to the devil to regain your youth and love?
Charles Gounod’s opera Faust is inspired by Goethe’s masterpiece. The story tells of the tragic pact between Faust, an old scholar disappointed by life, and Mephistopheles, the devil. In exchange for his new-found youth, Faust sells his soul and falls in love with the young Marguerite, leading to a series of tragedies.
This opera skilfully blends romance, temptation and redemption, with famous arias such as “Ah je ris de me voir si belle en ce miroir”, “Salut demeure chaste et pure” and the great choral piece “Gloire immortelle de nos aïeux”.
Opéra du Rhône promises a spectacular staging of this 19th-century work.
