Pérégrine
The story of an ever-changing journey. A pilgrimage along the Via Francigena, in search of a new sense of purpose, followed by the pandemic and cancer, which reveal a new geography: that of a different relationship with the body, with time, with oneself, and with the world.
In this poetic travel journal, Joanne Chassot records fragments of a life turned upside down. Without pathos or lyricism, she captures an experience where pain and wonder, humor and anxiety, ordinary details and existential reflections intertwine.
The Salt Girl
On Otok, people fish, swim, sing, and laugh. Drawn to this small Adriatic island, the narrator observes the daily lives of its inhabitants. Through her eyes, as in a fairy tale, we discover their nostalgia and humor, their exiles and the languages that intersect, the ways of seafarers, and the stories they tell each other in the evenings at the harbor.
This island chronicle is intertwined with a personal quest. The waves dancing around Otok carry the narrator’s memories and seem to chant the name of her dying father. A Balkan immigrant, he lived as an eternal stranger, scarred by war and everyday racism, struggling not to sink into despair. Sonia Zoran draws on this sense of identity in flux—which was her legacy—to craft a deeply poetic narrative.
