On Saturday, May 30, 2026, the City of Martigny is inviting the public to discover the trades involved in municipal operations through an immersive, convivial day open to all.
Demonstrations, workshops, events and meetings will give you a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes to make a city function on a daily basis.
For one day, Martigny’s technical services will come out of the shadows to meet the population. On Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the rue du Verdan 15 site will be open to the public as part of the Journées suisses de la voirie et des services techniques communaux.
Often not very visible, operational professions are nevertheless part of everyday life: road maintenance, snow clearance, green spaces, waste management, infrastructure maintenance or maintenance of municipal vehicles. Through this open day, the Town wishes to give a concrete demonstration of the work carried out every day by its teams, and allow the public to discover what goes on behind the scenes.
The itinerary will take visitors from one sector to the next, among the machines, workshops and field crews. As soon as they arrive, municipal vehicles will be on display on the site: sweepers, tractors, winter equipment and specialized machines can be observed up close, with explanations from the employees who use them on a daily basis.
Throughout the visit, events will alternate between discoveries, demonstrations and participatory activities. In particular, the winter sector will offer an immersion into the work carried out during periods of snow and ice, with animations created in collaboration with the Swiss Salt Works and the projection of images dedicated to winter interventions.
The parks and gardens teams will be showcasing their work through planting workshops and presentations on biodiversity, bees and the work carried out in the city’s green spaces. In the forests and countryside, a number of demonstrations will showcase the techniques and machines used to maintain natural areas.
As for the roads department, it will be offering a fun-filled course on waste sorting, recycling and urban cleaning. The idea is to raise awareness among young and old in a simple, practical way, while maintaining a friendly, participatory spirit.
Visitors will also be able to enter the mechanical workshops to discover the work carried out on municipal vehicles and equipment. A participative fresco will round off the day, allowing everyone to leave a trace of their passage.
In addition to the events, the day will also provide an opportunity to talk about the training and apprenticeships offered by the town in the technical professions. As a training community, Martigny is also keen to introduce young people to these professions, and perhaps inspire a few vocations.
