Grange à Emile : A. Joris & C. Gigandet “À Fleur de peau” – Vernissage [EN]

From July 3 to 29, La Grange à Emile will showcase works by Athina Joris and Christine Gigandet. Opening reception on July 3 at 6:00 p.m.

For Athina Joris, the collection of paintings on display is an artistic process transcribed into the medium with all its vulnerability. Her works are unfiltered, unique, and created in the moment.

She created them all using recycled materials, which for her serve as a way to detach from her mind through her creative channel.

They are presented as they are—some unsightly, others sublime.

For her, it doesn’t matter, as long as they come to life in the material.

Looking back, she adores them, just as she may not like them for a time.

This is when the artist questions herself further about the judgments she might hold regarding her work. What to do with this? Where does it lead her? And so she observes the creative process with greater love.

Athina loves to see her works evolve over time through her own eyes and those of others.

It is these perspectives that help her grow, and that is why it is important for her to share them—because through these mediums, she tries to speak to people and provide them with a source of inspiration that touches on the essence of our humanity.

A self-taught photographer, artist, hypersensitive and idealistic, Christine Gigandet wishes to share with the public these treasures that, around a street corner or further afield, await a glance.

These are snapshots of moments when the noise of the surrounding world fades away, opening up a space for contemplating the beauty and perfection of the world.

In an effort to fully embrace and elevate the present moment with spontaneity and authenticity, she uses neither filters nor retouching.

Some thirty close-up photos of plants—many of which were taken in the town of Martigny—bear witness to the poetry that surrounds us. The fleeting nature of the moment is inversely proportional to its depth.

This gaze upon the moment, through the state of being it allows the artist to experience, has a taste of eternity.

The exhibition is open on Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., as well as by appointment at 079/350 20 81.

The opening reception will take place on Friday, July 3, at 6:00 p.m.
