Fondation Pierre Gianadda : La Nouvelle École de Paris [EN]

The exhibition "The New School of Paris" will be held at the Pierre Gianadda Foundation from December 4, 2026, to June 13, 2027.

Bazaine, Bissière, Lapicque, Manessier, da Silva…

Following *Modigliani and the School of Paris*, presented in 2013 at the Pierre Gianadda Foundation, the exhibition *The New School of Paris* is dedicated to works from a private Swiss collection. This term was first coined in 1946 by Pierre Francastel to describe a non-figurative style of painting, free from any descriptive function, that offers a new visual language and a construction of space through often vibrant colors.

On display at the Foundation are masterpieces by Jean Bazaine, Jean Bertholle, Roger Bissière, Maurice Estève, Jean Le Moal, Elvire Jan, Charles Lapicque, Alfred Manessier, Gustave Singier, Pierre Tal Coat, and Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, among others. These works bear witness to the artistic journey of a generation of renowned painters from the New School of Paris. Sculptures by Étienne-Martin, Étienne Hajdu, François Stahly, and Alicia Penalba—also representative of this School—complete this significant artistic collection.

All these works are the result of the dedication of an exemplary collector and are now recognized as a definitive collection. The Foundation offers the unique privilege of being able to admire works from a Swiss private collection that is generally not on public view.

A comprehensive catalog, featuring articles by art historians specializing in this period as well as a fascinating interview by curator Juliette Laffon with the collection’s owner, accompanies the exhibition.

Opening reception open to the public on Friday, December 4, at 6:00 p.m.
