Barberine, between machines and men - Exhibitions in Châtelard and Finhaut

Des machines… – Exhibition at the Châtelard SBB factory

To mark the centenary of Barberine, the “Des machines…” exhibition invites you to discover the fascinating story of the electrification of the Swiss rail network through the construction of the Barberine dam and power station. Housed in the CFF plant at Le Châtelard, it highlights the technical challenges, human commitment and innovation that have marked this industrial adventure. A vibrant tribute to all the generations of workers who took part in this epic, told in particular by Gérald Lugon Moulin, former plant manager and descendant of a family involved in the project from the outset.

Exhibition times at Châtelard:

  • Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

“…and men” – Exhibition in Finhaut

As part of Barberine’s centenary celebrations, the ” …and Men” exhibition in Finhaut plunges into the heart of the human and social upheavals caused by the construction of the Barberine dam at the beginning of the 20th century. Through written and photographic archives, it traces the profound transformation of the Trient Valley, marked by the arrival of tourism and, above all, the boom in hydroelectricity. The exhibition sheds light on the lives of the local population before, during and after the major construction projects: how their daily lives and sources of income changed radically, from alpine pastures to industry and tourism.

Conceived by historian Christophe Goumand, this exhibition pays tribute to collective memory and to people’s adaptation to modernity.

Exhibition times in Finhaut:

Every day from 2pm to 6pm.

Free admission.
