Manoir de la ville: Paraísos inseguros [English]

Exhibition at the Manoir de la Ville de Martigny, from June 1 to September 8, 2024.

The Paraísos inseguros exhibition deals with territories, insecurity and exoticization. The two artists, each in their own way, propose a decolonization of the imaginary.

Jorge Raka explores the notions of speed, success and progress in relation to migration and violence, with humor and a straightforward approach. With his wheels, insecticides and safety armbands, he presents objects with a raw aesthetic nourished by references to popular culture and art history.

Patricio Gil Flood imagines a rewriting of myths and clichés linked to exoticism, with postcard cut-outs, a paradisiacal diorama or miniature cardboard islands. In this way, he maps production and consumption patterns in a speculative and poetic way.

The personal work of these two artists is presented for the first time in Valais in a major exhibition.
