Fondation P. Gianadda: René Jacobs [English]

The Fondation P. Gianadda invites you to a new concert on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 5:00 pm.

Better known by its nickname “St. Cecilia’s Mass”, the Missa Cellensis is one of Joseph Haydn’s largest and most elaborate masses. The composer, who had just taken over the direction of the Esterhazy chapel, no doubt wanted to impress his employer.

Written for soloists, choir and orchestra, this flamboyant score will be performed here by René Jacobs, one of the most eminent figures in Baroque and Classical vocal music.

For his first visit to Martigny, he will be accompanied by the Zürcher Singakademie, the Basel Chamber Orchestra and a fabulous array of soloists. This “Concert du Souvenir” commemorates the first anniversary of Léonard Gianadda’s death.
