In English, drone is the name given to the more or less annoying and more or less deadly device that flies over our heads. It is under this name that, for a few decades now, it has been re-colonizing music, after having been banished from it, since the beginning of the 18th century at least, by the supporters of a certain sound academicism. But where the drone, in ancient times, was often an obligatory passage (a bagpipe is so made that it cannot help but buzz), the drone has today become a sound that we seek to produce consciously, and above all for itself. It has become an end in itself, in its nakedness and in its mass (in English, drone is still called burden).
strom|morts wants to share with the general public their passion for this genre and also to demonstrate that the drone has been an important component in the history of universal music. You can discover through this exhibition that the drone has crossed the ages and the whole world; and maybe even “droning” yourself on the synthesizer provided.
