“Of dogs and men”: Saint Bernards in photographs

In the long history of the Great Saint Bernard, the canons and their dogs are inseparable. They are in legend and in the reality of the hospice for centuries. The former symbolize the unalterable devotion to travelers; the latter all that the noble instinct of an animal can bring to the rescue of people lost in the high mountains.

The photographers have shown this unique relationship, woven between these men of prayer and these great endearing animals. Their exceptional images, taken from the rich holdings of the Médiathèque Valais – Martigny and the collection of the Maison Hospitalière du Grand-Saint-Bernard, can be discovered in an exhibition of some one hundred historical photographs at Barryland.
