In 1971, just as women were finally able to vote nationally in Switzerland, the Womanhouse art project took shape in an abandoned house in Los Angeles. Considered the first feminist art exhibition, Womanhouse was brought to life by artists Miriam Shapiro, Judy Chicago and their art students: feminist issues related to women’s situation in the home, domesticity, confinement and freedom were presented in immersive installations and performances.
Fifty years later, to mark this double anniversary, women* occupy the Manoir for a multiform exhibition. EDHEA students and several guest artists were symbolically given the key to the Manor house. Their installations are developed in the face of current feminist issues, in resonance with those of the 1970s.
With Chiara Bertin, Collectif La Bûche, Maëlle Cornut, Cécile Giovannini, PlanteSorcières, Carole Roussopoulos, Marie Velardi, Nicolas Vermot Petit-Outhenin with Meret Knobel and Aurélie Strumans, and with students from EDHEA – Ecole de design et haute école d’art du Valais.
